Fond Memories of Tom

Edna, Karen, Nancy, Donna, Pam, I am deeply saddened by Tom's passing. I want to offer my deepest condolences. There are countless memories of our families at your place for cookouts, holidays, and games. The many times where we tried to win the badminton games only to lose (again) to the girls. My greatest appreciation was Tom forming the WL Water Jets. An organization that thousands have passed through. I recall the swim meets Tom was the officiating starter. I swear he kept me on the blocks just a tiny bit longer than normal only to receive a wry smile after the race. In the early 70s, Tom talked me into swimming the 1650 at the Yale Invitational. "It'll be fun" he said. "It'll be easy" he said. Somehow the words fun and easy do not belong in the same sentence with 1650! Do you know how many laps are in a 1650! Every 400 yards or so, Tom would paced the deck waving me on. At the end, there was a slap on the shoulder and a "Good Job". I have a 1650 on the swim schedule later this year and it will be dedicated to Tom. Rest in peace in Uncle Tommie. - Brian G. Quinn
