George P.  Palmer
George P. Palmer of Ft. Myers, FL formerly of Enfield & Windsor Locks, CT., passed away on December 17, 2017, at Hope Hospice House in Ft. Myers, surrounded by his loving wife Louise (Trahan) of 59 years and family. George was born in Berlin, NH in 1935, the son of the late Edward and Irene (Devost) Palmer. He graduated from Berlin High School, then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict participating in the Atomic Bomb testing in 1955. He also served 6 1/2 yrs in the National Guard. He was employed at Brown Company in Berlin before moving his family to CT. where he was employed as a pipefitter and welder at CH Dexter/Ahlstrom Co. in Windsor Locks for 32 yrs, retiring as the Maintenance Supervisor.

He was a member of Holy Family Church in Enfield and was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. George enjoyed spending time with them attending their sports games and coaching his sons Little League Baseball for 10 yrs. He also spent many years volunteering with his wife for Meals on Wheels and Loaves & Fishes. In 1996 George and Louise retired to their resort in Fort Myers, FL. In his spare time, he loved reading, watching sports, playing golf, bocce, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

Besides his wife (Louise) he is survived by their 4 children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. His daughter Diane (Terry) Monahan, of Abu Dhabi, UAE; son Gary (Lorraine) Palmer, of No. Granby, CT.; daughter Linda (Jim) Whalen, of Enfield, CT.; and son Steven Palmer, of Ellington, CT; grandchildren Gregory and Melissa Jubinville, Jonathan Francia, Steven, Jr. and Zachary Palmer; great grandchild; Makenna Palmer.

He is predeceased by his parents, a loving daughter Lisa, grandson Michael Palmer, his sister Jane & her husband Donald Cook, and his brother Edward Palmer Jr. George will be sorely missed by many close family members and friends that he leaves behind. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Sunday January 21, 2017, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 10 am at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield. Please meet at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery.
