Thomas J. Wheeler of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of Jerrolyn (Manley) Wheeler, entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Hartford Hospital. Tom was born on January 15, 1951, the son of the late Loretta (Mobiglia) Wheeler and James Wheeler. Following graduation from Windsor Locks High School in 1969, Tom went to work at Pratt & Whitney. He transferred to International Fuel Cells (a division of United Technologies) where he was an Experimental Machinist making parts for the fuel cell that went into the Space Shuttle, until he retired in 2014 having worked 44 years. Tom was an active member of the East Hartford and Rockville Lodges of the Loyal Order of Moose for 18 years, where he held many Officer Positions. Tom was not only a member, but he was a Fellow, and a Legionnaire. Tom started many activities at the Lodge, including the Dart League, and the First Responders Breakfast, to name a couple that continue today. Tom loved all sporting activities, from hunting, fishing, horseshoes, bowling at the Meadows and South Windsor Bowling Alley, and his beloved Baseball team the New York Yankees, to name a few. He belonged to the Golf League while working at IFC. Tom is survived by his three children, James Wheeler and his wife, Caren of Windsor Locks; his daughter Dawn Thatcher and her husband, George of South Windsor and Robert Conary and his wife, Nancy of Vernon. He leaves his brother, Richard Wheeler and his wife, Kathy of Feeding Hills, MA; his sister, Mary Ann Akil and her husband, Abdul; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Manley of Munds Park, AZ; a brother-in-law, Howard Manley and his wife, Lorraine of Ellington; four nephews- Lieutenant Anthony Akil, United States Navy, of Monterey, CA, Ahmed Akil of MA, Steven Wheeler and his wife, Bryanna of Suffield, and Howard Manley III of Ellington. He is also survived by his uncle, Raymond Mobiglia and his wife, Lorraine, his aunt, Peggy Mobiglia of Windsor Locks, and by many cousins and his Moose brothers and sisters. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 1, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT, with a ritual to be performed by the Loyal Order of the Moose at 7:15 p.m. A procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday, August 2 at 9:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church at 42 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas Wheeler’s memory to Moose Charities at 155 S.
