Edwin R  Atkinson
Edwin R. Atkinson, 96, of Enfield, CT entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the comfort of his own home. Edwin was born on August 12, 1921 in Maine, the son of the late William and Blanche Atkinson. Edwin proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during World War II and later went on to serve in the United States Army. Edwin retired at the age of 83 as a truck driver and began a job after retirement with the Enfield Crossing Guard. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and he loved puzzles. Edwin enjoyed bird watching from his home. Edwin is survived by four children, Julie Stevens, John Atkinson and his wife, Deborah of Ashford, CT, Jody Atkinson of Southbridge, MA, and Jerry Atkinson and his wife, Lynn of East Windsor, CT; a sister, Geraldine Hanley; fifteen beloved grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Edwin was predeceased by a son, Eddie Atkinson Jr., and a brother, Richard Atkinson. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation hours on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, CT 06082. A service to celebrate Edwin's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Enfield Street Cemetery. Donations in memory of Edwin may be sent to National Association of American Veterans, Inc., 1725 I Street, NW Suite 300 (Third Floor), Washington, DC 20006.
