Milford "Barney" Lamont  Carson
Milford Lamont "Barney" Carson, 93, of Enfield, loving husband of Adeline "Adele" (Farrick) Carson, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, surrounded by family. Barney was born in Enfield on October 5, 1924, son of the late Herbert and Frances (McCracken) Carson. He grew up on the Riverview Dairy Farm of Enfield, plowing the fields with "Danny" his work horse, and remained active there throughout his life. Barney proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He later completed his education at University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Business Administration. Barney had a successful career at the United States Postal Service in Enfield, opening the Post Office at the corner of Enfield Street and Meadowlark Road. Retiring as Assistant Post Master in 1984 after over thirty years, Barney’s personal vehicles continued to don his Enfield zip code vanity license plate, 06082. He proudly served at the Enfield Fire Department District No. 1 for over 39 years, retiring as Deputy Fire Chief. He was Chairman of the Enfield Cemetery Association. After his retirement Barney was involved with several civic organizations, including "Cans for Kids", and "Dial A Ride.”Barney was one of the longest surviving members of the Enfield Congregational Church. Milford is survived by Adele, to whom he was married for 67 years. He is also survived by four sons, Eric Carson and his wife, Donna of Enfield, Christopher Carson and his wife, Sharon of Lebanon, IL, Jonathan Carson and his wife, Barbara of Suffield and Milford L. "Ford" Carson, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Longmeadow; his six grandchildren, Jessica, Ariel, Katherine, Allison, Jackson, and Anna Carson; and several nieces and nephews. Barney was predeceased by his brother Richard Carson and sister, Elizabeth Fitzgerald. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Friday, May 11, 2018, from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield CT. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Enfield Congregational Church, 1295 Enfield Street in Enfield CT 06082. Burial will be held at the family’s convenience.
