Gilbert R. Rivard, 84, of Somers entered into Eternal Rest on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital. Gilbert was born October 14, 1933, in Springfield, MA the son of the late Ernest and Eva (Perrault) Rivard. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gilbert was employed with Mass Mutual for several years prior to working at The Hartford from which he retired in 1985 after many years. He was a member of the Somers Senior Center where he enjoyed playing Bridge, and a former member of the Somers Village Players. Gilbert enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Elmcrest Country Club. He was also a member of the National Ski Patrol and physically active most of his life and some of the many activities he enjoyed were bicycling with his sons, playing tennis, skiing, and fishing. He is survived by his three sons, Mark Rivard and his wife, Debra of Enfield, Michael Rivard and his wife, Robin of Clayton, MO and Glenn Rivard of Sharon, MA; his eight grandchildren, Danielle Bessaoud and her husband, Kias of Groveland, MA, Adam Rivard and his wife, Jackie of Somers, Ashley Pleva and her husband, Sam of Somers, Dr. Rebecca Rivard and her husband, Tim Miles of Philadelphia, PA, Emma and Abby Rivard of Clayton, MO, Madison Rivard of Boston, MA, and Noah Rivard of Sharon, MA; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Mackenzie, and Griffin Bessaoud; his former wife, Joan M. Rivard of Somers and several nieces and nephews. Gilbert was predeceased by a brother, Bernard Rivard and two sisters, Claire Rivard and Jean Benson. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., (Route 190) Somers. A funeral service celebrating Gilbert's life will follow the visiting hours at 5:30 pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
