Joan (Wilcox) Cass, 89, a resident of Enfield, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on September 15, 2017. She was the beloved wife of late Harland A. Cass for 35 years. A long-time resident of Enfield, she was always a Vermonter at heart. Born in Bennington, Vermont to the late Andrew and Clara (Mathers) Wilcox, Joan graduated from University of Vermont in 1950 and from Brown University in 1952. She spent many wonderful summers with her family in Weathersfield, Vermont. Joan was Vermont strong.

Joan was a member of the Enfield Congregational Church, UCC for more than 50 years and volunteered for many organizations, including Enfield Adult Day Care, Enfield Emergency Loan Fund, Literacy Volunteers, the Women’s Club of Enfield, and the Nearly New Shoppe at her church.Among her many hobbies were gardening, knitting, reading, and going to tag sales. She loved animals of all kinds.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Joan is survived by her children Martha Cass Giammatteo and her husband Paul of Southbury, CT, Matthew Cass of Windsor, CT, her sister Diana Haney of Aurora, OH, her grandchildren Anne and husband Sean, Andrew, John Harland, and Kevin, her great-grandchildren Jameson and Abigail, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband Harland, her sister and brother-in law Sandra and August Klein and her brother-in-law Richard Haney.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family during visitation hours from 11:00am-1:00pm and for a memorial service to follow at 1 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road Enfield, CT 06082. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s memory to: Steeple Lighting Fund, Enfield Congregational Church, 1295 Enfield Street, PO Box 3171 Enfield, CT 06082.
