He routinely assisted his fellow pilots with their aviation related projects. In a Piper Cherokee, he flew to Alaska and also circumnavigated Australia in a Cessna 172. One of his dreams was to visit all 50 states. He accomplished this by traveling to Nebraska in 2012 with his son, Joel and two of his grandsons.

He was a lifetime member of the New England Air Museum and a "Quiet Birdman." He also belonged to Chapter 1310 (Skylark) of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Commemorative Air Force Association, the American Legion and the Sons of the American Revolution.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 56 years, Elaine (Casagrande), his son, Jeffrey and Jackie Martin of Ellington, his son, Joel and Deborah Martin of Marlborough and a daughter, Amanda Farnsworth of Marlborough.
