Richard  Skowron
Richard "Skowie" Skowron, 76, of the the Warehouse Point section of East Windsor, husband of Sharon (Borkowski) Skowron for 50 years, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Rich was born June 15, 1941 in Westfield, MA. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving honorably at the beginning of the Vietnam Conflict. He was very proud of his military service in U.S. Navy Aviation and on the USS Hancock and USS Kitty Hawk. He served for a total of 12 years on the local police Departments in Enfield, Windsor Locks, and as one of the original members of the East Windsor Police Department. He was employed by and retired from Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks for 30 years as a welder, foreman, and lead man. Skowie was a member of Melha Shrine Center, Springfield, MA, where he was a Past Commander of the Legion of Honor (an all veteran group at the Shrine), American Legion, VFW, and Enfield Moose Club. He enjoyed golfing NASCAR, and gardening in his free time. What he loved most was being in his garage and having friends stop by to enjoy his hospitality. He stubbornly fought through many health issues, melanoma, five-way by-pass heart surgery, COPD, lymphoma, and aortic valve replacement. Besides his wife Sharon, he is survived by his sister, Debra McDonald Carr of Golden Valley, AZ, his stepfather Norman W. McDonald of Bullhead City, AZ, and several cousins from the Southbridge, MA area.He was predeceased by his mother, Victoria Skowron. Visitation hours will be held from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Burial will be private and held at the family's convenience. Donations in Richard's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104, or to a veterans organization of the donor's choice.
