Obituary for Joan Droney

Joan Droney
Joan Droney passed from this life at her home in Fort Walton Beach, FL on September 2nd, surrounded by several members of her devoted and loving family.

Once diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 14 years ago, Joan Droney never gave up! She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook - even through countless doctors’ visits, broken bones, x-rays, hospitalizations, rehabilitation stays and pain. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her. Through it all, she continued to be the hugely encouraging and supportive mother, step mother, Nana and friend she had always been.
Joan was born on January 12, 1941 in Lancashire, England to John and Lillian Maleedy. She joined her sister, Maureen at home and then later they were joined by her brother, Owen (Philip) -both of whom still reside in Suffield and Windsor Locks, CT respectively. Joan left her home in England in 1960 after marrying her first husband, Bob Grant. They lived in several different states in the US with their growing young family until Bob's retirement from the US Air Force in 1974. The family settled in Windsor Locks, CT. After her divorce, Joan was blessed by her new marriage to Pat Droney. Together, Joan and Pat ran their own business, Joe's Burner Service until their retirement in 2001. They resided in Windsor Locks for 20 years until their move into their retirement homes of an in-law addition to their daughter Donna's home in Broad Brook, CT and their mobile home, "the RV". Within a year's time in August 2002 Pat passed from this life unexpectedly. Later in 2011 she moved to Mary Esther, FL to live with her daughter Linda, her daughter Joanie, and her son-in-law Al.

Joan continued to celebrate and live her life enthusiastically. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of the extreme shyness of her youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, entertaining and lending a sympathetic ear, will never be forgotten. This is Joan's legacy - a woman who loved others with all she had to give. Her love was not discriminatory. She valued others above herself.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others." Phillipians 2:3-4 NIV
Joan faithfully cared for family and friends with delicious cooking/baking from scratch - especially English treats, sewing and crafting. With a real zest for life, Joan loved to dance, garden, camp and play games/cards – especially with her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, chat with friends and family, and travel…just to name a few.
