Obituary for Arthur F. Slanetz

Arthur F.  Slanetz
Arthur F. Slanetz of Clearwater Florida and Enfield Connecticut died on Wednesday July 19, 2017 at the age of 91. Born in Springfield Massachusetts, and raised in Enfield Connecticut, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Mildred M. Slanetz. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Effy (Locke) Slanetz in 2002. He was a successful problem solver and entrepreneur and ran several businesses throughout his career. He ran the family tobacco and potato farm as a young man, sold Oliver tractors and farm implements, became a licensed electrician and contractor. He owned and operated the Oliver Sales & Service Company, the Slanetz Corporation and the Ellington Acres Company before retiring to Clearwater Florida, where he and his wife enjoyed many years of boating, fishing, camping, and travelling with family and friends. Art was a charter member of the Enfield Safety Council during the time the emergency 911 system was implemented in Enfield. He also served on the Town’s Housing Board of Appeals for many years. He leaves four children; Susan Wavada and her husband Michael, Karen LaPlante, Donald Slanetz, and Betty Slanetz; and one grandchild, Travis LaPlante and his wife Melissa. Extended family includes his brother in laws Robert Locke and his wife Carol, Edward Locke and his wife Julia, his sister in laws Elsie Locke and Gene Locke. He was predeceased by a sister Margaret Davis, brother in laws Chester Locke and Charles Locke. He leaves many friends in Clearwater, including his very good friends Dominick and Darlene Tornatore with whom he had many wonderful memories and Saturday night dinners. He also leaves longtime friends Madeline Cox, Harold and Vivian Atwood and Mickey Fortney and his family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Suffield House who provided for his care during his last month. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at the Enfield Elks 138 North Maple St. Enfield, CT on Tuesday August 1, 2017 from 6pm to 9 pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. Please come and share your stories. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to the Town of Enfield, Farmland Preservation Fund at 820 Enfield St., Enfield, CT 06082. Leete-Stevens Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
