Kathleen E."Kathy" (Lesniak) Kowalenko, 67, of Enfield entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, June 5, 2017, at Parkway Pavilion in Enfield after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Kathy was born May 2, 1950, in Springfield, MA the daughter of Evelyn (Zawistowski) Lesniak of Enfield and the late Leopold Lesniak. A lifelong resident of Enfield, Kathy was a graduate of the Our Lady of Angels Academy class of 1967. Kathy was employed with Aetna in Hartford for several years as a computer programmer. She retired in 2016 after more than 20 years with the Enfield Public Schools where she was employed as a Library Assistant at JFK Middle School. She also worked part-time for more than ten years as a Pharmacy Technician at CVS in Enfield. Kathy spent much of her spare time helping enrich the lives of the children of Enfield. She served as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 392, fostered the interests of students as faculty advisor for numerous clubs at JFK Middle School, was a proud Enfield High School “band parent”, and supported creativity as a member of the Woman's Club of Enfield's High School Arts Festival, recently serving as chairperson for several years. Kathy also loved playing softball, cheering on the UConn Women Huskies and embarking on adventures with her dear friends.

In addition to her mother Evelyn she is also survived by her loving son, Brian Kowalenko of Enfield and her sister, Karen Lesniak of Fife, WA. Kathy's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Parkway Pavilion for the wonderful and compassionate care she received. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, June 10, 2017,at 9 am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Kathy to the Leiomyosarcoma Direct Research Foundation, at www.lmsdr.org.
