Obituary for Austin McDowell

Austin  McDowell
Austin McDowell, 76, of Enfield, beloved husband and best friend of Eloise (Clark) McDowell, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital with his family by his side. Austin was born on September 13, 1940 in Manchester, CT, the son of the late John and Doris (Austin) McDowell. He has resided in Enfield for the past thirty years and retired from Pratt and Whitney after thirty-eight years of service where he was an inspector. He also was a school bus driver for both the Enfield and Somers School Systems. Austin was a member of the Somers Baptist Church and also a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Strazza-Tonoli-Emhoff American Legion of Stafford Springs, CT. In his leisure time Austin and Eloise loved to travel and spend time with their Boston terriers, Heidi, Jim and now Shorty. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events, which made him very proud. Austin was a great father and grandfather and one of the kindest and most compassionate men you could ever have the privilege of meeting.
Besides his wife of thirty-four years he leaves his seven children - John Bruch of Greenwood, DE; Kimberly (McDowell) Post and her husband Kenneth of Stafford Springs CT; Robin (Bruch) Stearns of Weston, ME; Rhonda (Bruch) Chisholm and her husband Walter of Springfield, MA; Dona-Kay McDowell of New Milford, CT; David McDowell and his wife Paula of Lebanon, CT; Jeffrey Bruch and his wife Kathy of Chicopee, MA. A sister Ruth (McDowell) McQueeney of Windsor, CT, twenty- one grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. Austin was predeceased by his brother, William (Bill) McDowell.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 13, 2017, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Somers Baptist Church, 40 Battle Street, Somers, CT followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. to honor the memory of Austin with Pastor John Riley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow the funeral service at the Somers Center Cemetery located on Battle Street in Somers.
