Obituary for Barbara Rose "Babs" Baker

Barbara Warner Baker, “Babs”, of the Hazardville section of Enfield left us on April 13, 2017 at the remarkable age of 104. Barbara was born in Springfield, MA on October 25, 1912. Babs loved life and lived it to the fullest with family and friends. Throughout her life, she was active in the Hazardville United Methodist Church, Girl Scouting, theater groups, P.T.O., D.A.R., Eastern Star, A.A.R.P., Cameo Club, the Enfield Historical Society, and UTA. She was employed by the State of CT before her retirement. She loved dancing, painting, swimming, world traveling, playing cards, knitting, and shopping. Many knew her as “The Doll Lady”. Her collection of over 300 dolls from around the world was show-cased and publicized. Later in life, she was a member of the world-renowned “Young at Heart” chorus of Northampton, MA. Until she was 90 years young, she brought great delight to many audiences when she ended the show with her perfect splits! Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Dudley Matthew Baker (1914-1960), precious granddaughter, Megan Daley, and sons-in-law, Ben O’Connell and Walt Siddall, sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Will Hadlock, brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Ethel Warner. Barbara is survived by her devoted children: son, Barry Baker of Enfield and Kathryn Young, daughter, Bonnie Baker of Springfield, MA, daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Frank Pillitteri of Enfield, daughter, Beverly O’Connell of Cape Cod, MA, daughter and son-in-law, Beryl and Kevin Daley of Cape Cod. She will be fondly remembered by her 10 adoring grandchildren; David Baker and wife, Marcia of Belmont, CA, Deborah Baker-Egozi and husband, Moises Egozi, of Miami, FL, Carl Casinghino and wife, Alexandra, of Suffield, Brian Casinghino and wife, Heather, of Suffield, Lori Casinghino and wife, Bernadette Kenny, of Milton, MA, Lee Leon and husband, Norman, of Berwick, ME, Polly Devine and husband, Peter, of Suffield, Tim O’Connell of Enfield, Karen O’Connell and fiancé ,Todd Koep of Cape Cod, and Dana Gray and husband, Dustin of Dover, NH. Barbara leaves 18 great-grandchildren; Joshua, Matteo, Anna, Christopher, Daniel, Lucie, Gina, Chase, Vincent, Calvin, Rylen, Warner, Porter, Maddox, Griffon, Levi, Teddy, and Megan. The family wishes to thank Redstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in E. Longmeadow, MA and the staff who cared for her there. A special thanks to Ascend Hospice for their assistance with her final journey. A memorial service for Barbara will take place at the Hazardville United Methodist Church, 330 Hazard Avenue, Enfield, CT at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Donations in Barbara’s name may be sent to the Hazardville United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
