Michael J. "Mike the Barber" DeLisa, Sr. 85, of Enfield, beloved husband of the late Irene (Tellier) DeLisa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Blair Manor with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 11, 1931, in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Gennaro and Maria(DeLuca) DeLisa. Michael was a graduate of Buckley High School in Hartford and Vaughns Barber School. He then moved to Enfield in 1958. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War with the 66th Air-Sea Rescue Squadron during which he received the Air Medal. He was a Past Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President of Barbers Union Local #73. Michael was the National Education Director on the east coast for Stephan Hairpiece Co. of Florida. He taught at AI Prince Tech to prepare apprentice barbers to become journeymen barbers. Michael was the owner and operator of Michael's Barber Shop, on Weymouth Road before moving to North Road in East Windsor. He was the first barber shop to offer men hairstyling holding that distinction for many years until converting to a unisex salon. He was an active member in his community serving on many boards and organizations. He was a member of Holy Family Men's Club during which time he introduced the fried dough booth at the annual church fair. He was a past member of the Enfield Zoning Board of Appeals and also served as a committee member for the new public safety complex. He was a past member of the Enfield Elks Lodge #2222 where he served many years as co-chairman of the Italian night yearly dance. Michael was also a past charter member of the E. H. Parkman School PTO where he served as Secretary and Vice President; he also served on the Alcorn School Renovation Committee. He helped organize Boy Scout Pack 392. Michael served on the Senior Center Advisory Board and the Board of Directors of the Enfield Food Shelf. He was a former longtime member of the Enfield Democratic Town Committee. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Michael enjoyed cooking, photography, tending to his vegetable gardens, and was an avid fan of the UCONN Women's Basketball Team. He is survived by his four sons, Thomas W. Walsh and his wife Donna, of Enfield, Michael J. DeLisa, Jr. of Enfield, James G. DeLisa and his wife Sylvy of Somers, and John R. DeLisa and his wife Kim of East Windsor; his fifth son Kevin Boudreau and his wife Nancy of Somers; five grandchildren, Richard, Justin, Patrick, Kristopher, and Amanda; eight great grandchildren, Cassandra, Jordan, Tyler, Brooklyn, Carson, Lucas, Mackenzie, and Richie; two great great grandchildren, Giovani and Caleb; a sister Melina Intagliata and her husband Salvatore of CA. In addition to his beloved wife Irene, he was predeceased by a brother John J. DeLisa; three sisters Agnes Castorino, Nina Tine, and Virginia Donza. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 3-7 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Enfield (Please Meet at Church). Burial is private.
