Mary E.  Knapp (Lynch)
Mary E. Peck Knapp, 82, of Enfield, entered into eternal peace Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born August 21, 1934 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (O'Brien) Lynch. Mary was raised in Hartford, and lived in the Enfield community since 1969. Although Mary was on oxygen for several years, she was very active with several military organizations. She was Jr. Vice Commander of the John Maciolek Post #154 American Legion, Chaplain of the Disabled American Veterans Post #52, served on the Veterans Council and Enfield Patriot's Committee, and was past State Commander of the Amvets. She was also a longtime supporter of the Purple Heart Foundation. Mary was very proud of being a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. She was also proud of visiting Mt. Rushmore with her daughter and granddaughter who both served in the military establishing three generations of female veterans. When her children were young, she was a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader and was also employed with the Visiting Nurses of Enfield. She enjoyed travelling with family and her dear friend Dr. Smita Bhagat who was like another sister to her.
Mary leaves a daughter, Elizabeth Andersen and her husband Eric of Enfield, a son, James Peck and his wife Lynn of Enfield, a daughter Linda Tingle and her husband Levi of Sulphur, LA, a daughter Sheilagh Matos of Enfield, a sister Ann Devine of Weston, MA, five grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Patricia Lynch of Rotando, FL and Gladys Lynch of UT; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband James Knapp, a daughter, Kimberly-Ann Peck, a sister, Helen Glidden and three brothers, Edward J., Sean O., and Edward P. Lynch. Visitation hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Leete-Stevens for a procession to St. Patrick Church in Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal with military honors will be held at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery.
