Andler L. "Andy"  Alexander
Andler L. "Andy” Alexander, 82, of Enfield, Connecticut, loving husband of 59 years to the late Dorothy A. (Ryan) Alexander, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. Andy was born February 24, 1934, in Newport, New Hampshire, the son of the late Thomas B. and Bernice (Moore) Alexander. A proud reservist in the United States Army (USAR), Andy served in the Army Corp of Engineers for 8 years. A former land surveyor in Vermont, Andy moved to Enfield in 1960 to raise his family. He retired from Hamilton Standard after many years and also served as a member and reader at the former St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Enfield and St. Andrews Church in Longmeadow, MA. He was a member of the Republican Town Committee, the National Purple Heart Museum, the Enfield Minutemen and Dillon's Regiment. Andy enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and hiking. He was also an avid photographer and had a darkroom in the basement of his home. Andy was heavily involved in Boy Scouts and served as former District Commissioner and Assistant Scout Master of Troop 182 in Enfield. Andy and Dorothy loved traveling. Together, they traveled abroad to Scotland, Ireland, France and England – as well as exploring the lower 48 states. Andy and Dorothy also volunteered at Storrowton Village in West Springfield for 20 years. Andy is survived by two children, son Thomas B. Alexander and his wife, Nadine of Tolland; and daughter Judith A. Bernier and her husband, David of Easthampton, MA. Andy was also the proud grandfather of Joshua K. Alexander, Matthew T. Alexander, Michael D. Bernier and Erik P. Bernier. Andy was predeceased by a son, Kenneth J. Alexander and twin grandsons, John and Kenneth Bernier. Funeral services and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Storrowton Village, 1305 Memorial Ave, West Springfield, MA 01089.
