Obituary for Janina A. Olechny (Olechny)

Janina Olechny, 97, entered into eternal peace, Friday Feb. 2, 2018 at Fresh River Healthcare in East Windsor. She was the third of five beautiful daughters and three handsome sons of the late Walter and Mary Olechny of Thompsonville, CT. She was born February 5, 1920. As a young woman, Jay wanted to leave the winter weather of New England for the sunny shores of Florida, and found her dream. She worked primarily at the "Diplomat Hotel" in Hollywood, FL for over thirty-five happy years. She knew many stars and celebrities and became lifelong friends with Tony Bennett's mother and the Andrews Sisters, among many others. She was an independent woman who was an avid reader and loved to learn all she could and share her vast knowledge with anyone who would listen. Later in life, she moved back to CT and continued her legacy of helping others in any way that she could. She will be remembered for her "Friendship Cakes" which she made and delivered to many people and organizations. Jay was also extremely proud of her Polish heritage and language. She and her mother traveled to Poland and enjoyed the re-connection of family and memories. It was a wonderful trip for mother and daughter. Her heart was big and loving and she would do anything for family. Janina was predeceased by her sisters, Philomena Sullivan, Frances Jekot, Stasia Phillips, Edna Burt, and brothers, Bolek and John Olechny. She is survived by her brother, Joseph Olechny and eleven nieces and nephews plus many great nieces and great nephews as well. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. To leave online condolences, please visit www.Leetestevens.com
