Obituary for Rosa O'Brien (Grillo)

Rosa (Grillo) O'Brien, 94, of Enfield, beloved wife of the late Herbert O' Brien Entered into Eternal Life on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Torre Annunziata, Italy on October 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Ciro and Teresa (Guida) Grillo. Rosa had endured many hardships growing up in Italy during the Great Depression, lived through the WWII German Occupation, during which she met her husband and became an American citizen. She has been a member of the Enfield community for 59 years. She was a devout Catholic and faithful communicant of St. Bernard Church where she also was employed as a cook/housekeeper for over forty years. Rosa was a member of the St. Bernard Church Rosary Guild. She enjoyed going to the beach especially with her family. She also loved cooking and her meatballs will be greatly missed. Rosa is survived by her eight children, Ann Nelson and her husband Charles of Wethersfield, Henry O'Brien and his wife Sandra of Burlington, CT, Matilda Tacey and her husband Thomas of San Diego, CA, William O'Brien and his wife Linda of South Windsor, CT, Herbert O'Brien of Enfield, Rita Cecarelli of Milford and her boyfriend Frank, Teresa Marek and her husband Scott of Enfield, and Patricia O'Brien-Briere and her husband Christopher of Southbridge, MA, son-in-law Terrance Donnelly; 21 grandchildren, Tom, Terry, Steven, Sean, Christopher, Jonathon, Sara, Kathryn, Nicholas, Jill, Jessica, Shana, William, Jr., Nathan, Rachel, Elizabeth, James, Christina, Jeffrey, Marisa, and Evan, 14 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members in Italy. In addition to her husband Herbert, she was predeceased by a daughter Rose Mary Donnelly, two grandchildren, Lynn Seitzinger and Colin Donnelly, a great-grandson Jackson Marek, a sister Maria Grillo, four siblings (in infancy and childhood), a half brother, and half sister. We want to thank St. Francis Hospital, ED, and 8-1, Palliative Care Unit for their caring attention to Rosa in her final days. Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT. A funeral procession will gather Friday, September 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave, Enfield. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
