Obituary for Alan Charles Keney

Alan Charles Keney
Alan C. Keney, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2016, in Suffield, CT. In spite of his recent move to Suffield, his heart remained in Windsor Locks where he raised his family with his beloved wife of 57 years Patricia (Moylan) Keney. The three values that Al held dear in his fulfilled life were a love of his family, his community and his country. Al was a devoted husband father, grandfather and great grandfather to his large family and cherished each and every family gathering. In addition to his wife Patricia, he is survived by his five children: Kim Boissinneault and her husband Rick of Windsor and grandchildren Jeanine, Patricia and Nick; Karen Godbout and her husband Denis of Colchester and grandchildren Jeremiah and Melissa; Lisa Rarus and her husband Andy of Hartford and grandchildren Meredith and Drew; Alison Johnson of Memphis, TN and grandchildren Ryan, Megan, Freddie and Shelby and his only son Alan T. Keney and his wife Michelle and grandchildren Shane and Alexa of Suffield CT. He also leaves four great grandchildren Austin, Sierra, Avery and Isabella. Al is also survived by his sister Elaine Burnham and her husband Walter “Bucky” of South Windsor CT along with their three children Darlene, Michael and Paul and their families. Al was born in Hartford CT on leap year in 1936, the only son of Orin Keney and Lorette (Boudreau) Keney. He graduated from Hartford Public High School class of 1955 and joined the U.S. Army. After serving his country for 3 years, he was honorably discharged, married and moved to Windsor Locks to raise his family and begin his professional career at Hamilton Standard. He had a long and distinguished career at UTC, CIGNA and later retired from the State of CT in 2004. His community involvement was what made Al most proud. He was a lifetime member of the Windsor Locks Jaycees in the 1970s and 1980s and made some of his best lifelong friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Windsor Locks Lions Club and enjoyed the work done with his fellow members serving the WL community. He also served on the Board of the WL Volunteer Fire Department and was elected fire commissioner for 2 terms. He also delivered meals on wheels to the elderly in his retirement years. Al was involved for over 4 decades in St. Mary’s parish in Windsor Locks from the early days of CYO basketball and the teen drop in center to later on serving as a lector and a member of the choir. His faith is what brought him home to God in a painless and peaceful manner. Heaven has a new angel today that his family, friends, golf buddies and neighbors will miss forever here on earth. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 14,2016 from 4-8 PM at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home , 441 Spring St, Windsor Locks, CT. A funeral procession will gather on Friday, July 15, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church, Spring St. Windsor Locks. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Spring St , Windsor Locks. Donations in Al’s memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
