Obituary for Ernest S. "Ernie" Mankus

Ernest S. "Ernie"  Mankus
Ernest S. Mankus, 91, of Enfield, husband of the late Ann (Matheson) Mankus, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke, MA. Born in Springfield, MA, Ernie was a son of the late Benjamin and Connie (Bezak) Mankus. He was raised in the Thompsonville section of Enfield and was a lifetime resident of the Enfield community, and was a graduate of Enfield High School. He served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the John Maciolek Post #154 American Legion and was a past Amvets commander. Ernie was retired from William S. Simpson & Co. after 30 years with the family business. He was proud of his Polish heritage and was a member of Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the Polish Home. He was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed fishing and bowling in his free time. He is survived by his son Robert Mankus and his wife Karen of Enfield, his two grandsons, Robert Mankus Jr. and his wife Courtney of Leicester, MA, and Andrew Mankus and his wife Meghan Rothschild of Northampton, MA; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Eloise Mankus. Besides his wife Ann, Ernie was predeceased by his brother, Richard Mankus, and Ernie's longtime companion, Irene Joslyn. Family and friends are invited for visitation at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield on Monday June 27, 2016 from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. followed immediately by a funeral service at 12:00 noon. Committal will follow at Enfield Street Cemetery. Donations in Ernie's memory may be made to the Soldiers' Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
