Obituary for Susan A. Bertrand (Wishneski)

Susan A. Bertrand (Wishneski)
On June 10, as the sun rose on a beautiful late spring morning, Susan Bertrand died peacefully with her family at her side. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on April 11, 1947 to Irene (Kupstas) and John Wishneski. Susan attended St. Casimir School in Worcester and schools in Millbury, Massachusetts. She graduated from Millbury Memorial High School in the class of 1965, and moved to Connecticut soon afterward. She was a long-time resident of Somers.

Susan is deeply missed by her sons Adam (and Rose) Bertrand of Enfield, and Noah (and Krista) Bertrand of Bristol. She was grandmother to Tanner Malachi, Adam Zachary, Seth Thomas, Samantha Diane, and Elijah Bertrand. She also leaves an older sister Elaine (and Barry) Lubin of Hartford, a younger sister Andrea Singer of Oxford, Massachusetts, and a brother Joseph Lukas, Jr. of Worcester. Susan was aunt to Susan Rebecca Lubin of Albany, New York, and Scott (and Kerrie) Singer of Oxford, with great-niece and –nephew Alyssa and Scott Singer. Her best friend Beau, a large English setter, is waiting for her to come home, but is being cared for with great kindness by Valerie Lancaster-Brown, long-time neighbor and friend.

Susan was artistic, creative, and hard-working. She retired after 34 years as a tax analyst for Aetna in Hartford, but continued to work locally. At the time of her death she was an employee of TTM in Stafford. Susan especially loved her home and her garden, and was an expert knitter and needleworker.

Our family thanks the medical staff of Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford for their compassionate care of Susan during her illness.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St.(Route 190) Somers. A funeral service for Susan will begin at 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Big Fluffy Dog Rescue,1206 Russell St., Nashville, TN 37206.
