Melanie S.  Quinn (Walenta)
Melanie S. (Walenta) Quinn, 79, of Somers and loving wife of Floyd Quinn entered into Eternal Rest on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Hartford Hospital after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Melanie was born July 4, 1936, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Sophie (Rzasa) Walenta. Melanie attended local schools and graduated High School at the age of 16 and shortly after graduation she began working for the State of CT. She retired from Hallmark Greeting Cards after 25 years where she worked in customer services and the purchasing departments. She was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Church in Enfield and served on the Board of Directors for Johnson Memorial Hospital for over 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, sewing and cooking, but her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband, Floyd, she is also survived by their three children; Loriann M. Quinn of Groton, MA, Dr. Floyd F. Quinn and his wife, Dr. Debbie Thorne of San Marcos, TX and Robert M. Quinn of Clovis, NM; 8 grandchildren, Melissa and Aylin Elmali both of Groton, MA, Lindsey Garland and her husband, Brian of Cedar Park, TX, Ryan Quinn of Round Rock, TX, Courtney Quinn of Pflugerville, TX, Sarah Kroh and her husband Kyle, Patrick and Kyle Quinn all of Clovis, NM; 3 beloved great-grandchildren, Madison and Summer Garland and Melanie Kroh; her two brothers, Francis Walenta and his wife, Dorothy of Suffield and Edward Walenta and his wife, Marcia of Eliott, ME. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, January 22, 2016, from 4 m to 7 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will gather on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 9 am at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am at St. Adalbert Church. Burial will follow in Somers Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Melanie may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
